My Approach

Hello! my name’s Annie. I love animals – especially dogs. I qualified as a dog trainer about 5 years ago now, and went on to complete a 4 year Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Behaviour at Exeter University. I have trained thousands of dogs with behavioural problems ranging from aggression to severe separation anxiety.

So, the question most people ask is what’s the process? Every trainer works differently. For me, in most cases I start by suggesting an initial 1-2-1 Behavioural Consultation in your home. This  allows me to properly assess each individual case. During this session we talk through the problems you’ve been facing and the dogs history so that I have a holistic understanding of the dog. From here we discuss how we will be working together to modify this behaviour, often with demonstrations and a physical ‘training plan’. Whats also important to me is that you receive an understanding of the psychology underpinning these behaviours.

After this first session you will practice the training methods that have been shown to you. I’ll let you know if it will be necessary to arrange a follow-up after about two weeks of you practising the techniques. In cases of general obedience training we will work together until you feel your dog is at the level you’re happy with, whereas when solving ‘problem behaviours’ (toilet training, barking in the house etc.) we may just need one or two sessions.

This is method that I find works best -teach the owner how to train their dog. Giving people the tools to modify their pets behaviour. Ultimately I want to teach people how to maximise enjoyment with their pets. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than restoring harmony in people’s relationships with ‘man’s best friend’.
